Sacred Visit to the Ducks

Lucy, in all her craziness, had one of the sweetest moments ever today. We went to the pond to feed the ducks while the boys went fishing. She fed the ducks until all our bread was gone, talked to the squirrels, and played on the playground. As we were leaving, we walked by the neighborhood’s nativity display. Lucy liked it last year, but this year it was brought to a whole new level. She wouldn’t leave! She kept wanting to go into the manger to sit with the baby Jesus. I was super embarrassed at first because it was rush hour and a million cars kept driving past us. I didn’t want anyone to think she was vandalizing the decorations. Finally I just got over it and let her enjoy the beauty of the scene. She gave baby Jesus pieces of straw. “A special gift for Jesus because he is so cute,” she told me. She kept petting his blanket and telling him how soft it was. Then she leaned over and gave him a kiss. It was the sweetest and most beautiful thing ever. Such a young child knowing the importance of her Savior, even from just a simple scene as a neighborhood manger set up. When I told her it was time to leave, she got pretty upset, but went to her big pink car to go. Then, she realized Lilly was in her car. She got her out and told me that Lilly still needed to go and see baby Jesus. She took her over there and told her all about Jesus. She showed her the wisemen, Mary, & Joseph. Then, she let Lilly “touch” them all. Then we were good to go. Such an incredible little experience. Sometimes, we just need a reminder from the young on how simple our joys in life can be.
