Firefighters, Snow, and Imagine Dragons

Today at storytime, the Kaysville Fire Department came to visit the kids. After Miss Sarah read some books about fire trucks, the firemen talked with the kids about fire safety, exit plans, and not being afraid of them if there is a fire. They demonstrated how they put on all their fire fighting gear and reinforced that it is still the same nice fireman underneath all that protective gear. Lucy thought it was funny that the fireman’s name was Nate. It didn’t matter when he tried to give her a high five fully suited though. She wanted nothing to do with him. We’ll have to keep talking about not being afraid of firemen in gear. After the firemen were finished with their demonstrations, they invited the kids to come see their fire truck and ambulance outside. Too bad Lucy insisted on leaving her jacket in the van. It was cold, raining, and partially snowing outside. I tried to snap a quick picture, but all she wanted to do was go back inside. Her comment was, “Brie already knows what I look like!” 🤦🏼‍♀️The Snow was absolutely beautiful on the mountains. We missed the big snow at 4am that covered the ground. I’m sure we’ll see plenty more before this winter is over though.

In the evening, Uncle Eric made cookies with the kids, then everyone decided to jam to their favorite tunes. (Pretty much The Greatest Showman songs and Imagine Dragons) Lucy disappeared for a while, then when it was quiet for a bit, we could hear her belting out songs from in the basement. Sam snuck downstairs to find she had turned Natalie and William’s music stand into a microphone. He asked her if she would come show us, so then we were entertained for over a half an hour with her singing and dancing. She’s such a nut! As long as she doesn’t think you are recording her, she’ll just keep going and going!

Look at that Snow!

Got up this morning to see that the mountain tops above the house were covered in snow. Might not be anything super exciting to most people in Utah, but when you’re from Texas, it is a beautiful sight indeed! (At least for now. People keep telling us, “Just wait a few months and you’ll be sick of it!” We’ll see.)William had his tennis lesson this afternoon, so Lucy and I enjoyed a playground nearby. The sky was such a brilliant blue against the mountains and snow tops, I had to seize the moment to take some photos.Welcome Fall in Utah! 🙂

Is That Rain?!?!?

We haven’t seen rain in FOREVER! It has rained three times since we moved to Utah at the beginning of June. Today, I think we finally broke the dry spell. Lucy was beside herself with excitement. She quickly realized that she preferred not to get her clothes soaking wet and asked for her raincoat. She could have splashed in those puddles all day! Nothing is more special to a parent than to watch their child find pure joy in what everyone else takes for granted.

The “Dirty Rat”

Lucy fell in love with a road kill possum at Cabella’s a few months ago. $20!!! for stuffed road kill! I said, “Absolutely not!!!” She threw the biggest fit on the floor of Cabella’s that I have ever seen her throw. Needless to say, we left her “dirty rat” at the store. I have not heard the end of it since. She has been asking for it for Christmas now. (And chocolate!) Well today, we went to Dollar Tree. What does she find? An actual rat from the Halloween section. She was so excited, she proceeded to jump up and down with it around the store. “I’ve found you, my dirty rat!” Yeah, I gave in. We bought the plastic squeaky rat. (Yeah, I’m a sucker like that. Especially when it’s only a $1.) She kept hugging it and held its hand across the street “so it would be safe.” And she made me cut the tag off of it “so it wouldn’t choke.” Oh boy! You can tell she has three bigger brothers! We need some major girl influence around here! 🤣

Now we have this new critter who she has named “Dirty” and declares that it is a girl to everyone who tries to call it a he. 🤣Little Miss Priss and her rat named Dirty! What are we going to do with her?!!
